Featured Change Maker – Steven Curtis & Mary Beth Chapman

Many people know Steven Curtis Chapman — the multi-Grammy and DOVE winner with 49 #1 hits is very much a household name. His wife, Mary Beth Chapman, is highly successful in her own right as well. She is a New York Times best-selling author with her book, Choosing to See, which chronicles the Chapman’s story of loss and their journey through it.

What many people don’t know, however, is that the Chapmans are also the founders of Show Hope, a faith-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to care for orphans by engaging the Church and reducing barriers to adoption. 

Since 2003, the Chapmans, as well as the volunteers and staff of Show Hope, have worked tirelessly to help orphaned children find loving homes.

That important work takes on many forms, as well. Show Hope’s cornerstone program is their Adoption Aid grants, which help break down the financial barrier that many potential parents face when considering adoption. 

Legal costs, adoption fees, and a host of other associated necessary expenses make the average cost of adopting a child around $43,000. This is why financial aid programs like the one the Chapmans provide are so important.  

Adopting a child shouldn’t be prohibitively expensive, especially for families who are otherwise in a stable enough financial situation to provide a safe and loving home.  

Show Hope also offers medical care grants for adoptive children who have grown up mostly without reliable health care as well as vital pre- and post-adoption support for adoptive families. This kind of support is invaluable for both the parents and children that make up a new adoptive family.

To date, Show Hope has been instrumental in almost 7,000 children finding a home.

We were honored to host Steven and Mary Beth on the latest episode of Change Makers.  Over the course of 30 minutes, we truly got to hear the heart of these two incredible people as they shared the highs and the lows of their story with us.
